Katharine Eliska Kimbriel
Like many
Americans, writer Katharine Eliska Kimbriel reinvents herself every decade or
so. It’s not on purpose, mind you – it
seems her path involves being various people and things, and then she’s told to
take the good memories and info and move on. The one constant she has reached for in life is telling stories.
“I’m interested in how people respond to unusual circumstances. Sometimes, the most ordinary experiences can
become extraordinary. We race through
life at a gallop, trying to carve out moments that resonate for us. But life rarely gives us times to totally
focus on the magic of the real world – the people we meet and love, the stories
we read, the events we are caught up in, the shelter we find or construct, and
how we share all these things with the world. (Did not mean to reach for the profound here, but it may fit.) The older
I get, the more I realize that what I am writing about is people trying to make
the best of what is handed to them – or what they can strive to achieve.
My usual metaphor for all this is through SF and Fantasy — what is the
metaphor for power, for choice. In SF
it tends to be technology (good, bad and balanced) while in Fantasy the
metaphor is magic – who has it, who wants or does not want it, what is done
with it, and who/what the person or culture is after the dust has settled. A second metaphor, both grace note and
foundation, is the need for and art of healing. Life-changing experiences dealing with health and healing in
America has given me an eye for missteps and the goal of healing all I pass
by...and leaving soft footprints in my passing.
“Each day brings both healing and ways to heal. Rejoice in it!”
