Beaded Sea Creature Caption Contest

What a tough choice! We awarded two First Prizes. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all the participants.

First prize (Tie)

Adrienne Williamson: “Darling, is that a beaded sea creature hanging from your evergreen, or are you just glad to see me?” (Picture #2)

Second Prize: 

Colleen Robbins: The mutant clam discarded his now useless shell, crawling out to cross the reef and enjoying his new-found freedom. (Picture #1)

The contest:

To celebrate the publication of the ebook edition of Vonda N. McIntyre’s Nebula-winning novel The Moon and the Sun, BVC hosted a Beaded Sea Creature caption contest.

One of Vonda’s hobbies is creating beaded sea creatures. The designs are based on hyperbolic and fractal surfaces and have been exhibited in conjunction with The Institute for Figuring’s Hyperbolic Coral Reef , at installations in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dublin, etc. The next installation will be at the Smithsonian, in Washington, D.C., USA, in the fall of 2010.

Sherzad, the sea monster, one of the main characters in The Moon and the Sun, would be familiar with creatures very like these: Coral reefs, sea anemones, nudibranchs, marine flatworms.

The Rules

1. Each commentor may enter two captions per picture.
2. One caption per blog comment.
3. All work must be original to the commentor.
4. No obscenity. If you can’t say it on network TV between the hours of 10:00 p.m.-12:00 p.m. you can’t say it here.
5. The contest will open on Sunday 13 June 2010, 1:00 a.m. Central Time
6. Comments will be closed Saturday 19 June 2010, 1:00 a.m. Central time.
7. The decision of the judges is final.

Members of Book View Cafe are not eligible to enter this contest.
